FlexiFone vs Honest Mobile Smart SIM

Both are backup SIMs that use all four UK networks and switch automatically when your main signal drops. The difference is what the data can be used for β€” and whether you need calls, tethering and browsing as well as apps.

The difference that matters

"Unlimited" isn't the same as open

Honest Mobile’s Smart SIM is unlimited in the sense that there’s no gigabyte counter β€” but it only works on a list of around 500 approved apps. WhatsApp, Google Maps, Uber, Citymapper and banking apps are in. Web browsing, social media, video streaming and VPNs are out, and there are no calls or texts at all.

That’s a reasonable trade if you only want a safety net for messaging and navigation. It isn’t, if your phone drops onto the backup line mid-journey and you wanted to answer email, join a video call, or tether a laptop.

FlexiFone works the other way round: a normal data allowance you can spend on anything. 5GB to 100GB a month, no approved-app list, unrestricted tethering, and UK calls and texts if you pick a voice & data plan.

Why FlexiFone

What you actually get.

No approved-app lists, no single-network lock-in, and no contract to sit out.

01

Open data, not a list. Your allowance works on anything β€” email, browsing, video calls, streaming, a work VPN. There’s no approved-app list to check before you rely on it.

02

Calls and texts if you want them. Voice & data plans start at Β£10/mo with 100 UK minutes. A backup line that can’t make a phone call is only half a backup.

03

Tether anything. Unrestricted hotspot on every plan, so a laptop or tablet gets online through your phone.

04

Beyond phones. Physical SIMs for Β£3.50, and support for tablets, 4G/5G routers, cameras and trackers with a manual APN.

What Β£45 a year buys

Flexifone and Honest Mobile, both land on exactly the same headline price. What you can do with it is where they part company.

FlexiFone Annual 5GB
£45 /year
Works out at £3.75 a month
Data
5GB every month, spend it on anything
Calls
Available from £10/mo on voice & data
Tethering
Yes, unrestricted
Honest Mobile Smart SIM Annual
£45 /year
Works out at £3.75 a month
Data
Unlimited — approved apps only

Tethering

Same headline price. The question is whether a capped-but-open allowance suits you better than an uncapped-but-restricted one.

FAQ

Flexifone Vs Honest Mobile - Most Asked Questions

Is FlexiFone unlimited?

No. Plans run 5GB to 100GB a month. We’d rather give you a clear number you can spend freely than an unlimited badge with a list of exclusions.

Does FlexiFone restrict any apps?

No. Your data works on anything, including VPNs and streaming.

Can I make calls on either?

On FlexiFone yes, with a voice & data plan. Honest Mobile’s Smart SIM has no calls or SMS; their Classic SIM does, but it’s a single-network plan on Three from Β£12.15/mo.

Which is better for tethering?

FlexiFone β€” unrestricted on all plans. Honest Mobile’s Smart SIM doesn’t offer it.

Can I use both?

Yes, both are secondary SIMs β€” though phones hold a limited number of active eSIM profiles at once.
