What is eSIM?
An eSIM is a digital SIM built into your phone β no plastic card to post, insert or swap. FlexiFone’s multi network eSIM connects to EE, O2, Vodafone and Three, and switches automatically to whichever has the strongest signal where you are. Set up in about 60 seconds, from Β£3.75/mo.
No Plastic. No Post. Just Scan.
An eSIM does exactly what a normal SIM card does. Flexifone multi network esim proves to the network who you are and connects you to data, calls and texts. The difference is that it’s already built into your phone. Instead of waiting for a card to arrive and pushing it into a tray, you scan a QR code, and your phone downloads the profile.
That small change makes a few things much easier. You’re connected in minutes rather than days. You can hold more than one plan on the same phone and switch between them in settings β useful if you want a second line that works when your main network doesn’t. And there’s no tiny piece of plastic to lose.
With FlexiFone, the best eSIM you download isn’t tied to one network. It’s a multi-network profile with access to EE, O2, Vodafone and Three, so your phone connects to whichever has the best signal where you’re standing.

eSIM vs Physical SIM: What Actually Changes
Both give you the same connection. The difference is how you get it, and what you can do afterwards
| Feature | eSIM | Physical SIM |
|---|---|---|
| Format | A digital profile already built into your phone | Plastic card posted to you |
| How fast you're connected | Around 60 seconds after you scan the QR code | 1–3 working days for delivery, then insert |
| Cost | Free with any FlexiFone plan | £3.50 one-off |
| Multiple plans on one phone | Yes — keep your main number and FlexiFone side by side | Only if your phone has two SIM trays |
| SIM tray needed | No — works on phones with no tray at all | Yes |
| If your phone is lost or stolen | Nothing to remove; the profile can be reissued | The card can be taken out and used elsewhere |
| Moving to a new phone | Transfer the profile, or we reissue it | Move the card across |
One Multi Network eSIM. All Four UK Networks.
Most UK Travel eSIMs put you on a single network. If that network is weak where you live, work or travel, you’re stuck with it. FlexiFone’s eSIM has access to all four UK networks, and your phone moves between them automatically when the signal drops.
EE
Broad rural and motorway coverage across the UK.
O2
Strong in city centres, transport hubs and large venues.
Vodafone
Wide coverage with good indoor performance in built-up areas.
Three
Fast data where its 5G network has been rolled out.
You Stay in Control
Switching happens on its own, but you’re not locked out of the decision. From your FlexiFone account portal you can allow or block any of the four networks β handy if one performs badly at your address, or if your main SIM is already on that network and you want your FlexiFone line on a different one.
Does Your Phone Support eSIM?
Most phones from the last few years do. To check, open your dialler and type *#06# β if an EID number appears alongside your IMEI, your phone has an eSIM chip. It also needs to be unlocked. Below is how the main handsets perform on a multi-network SIM.
Full support
- iPhone β all features working
- Samsung Galaxy S series β all features working
Works, with limits
- Google Pixel β no 5G, due to the carrier-profile requirements our switching uses. VoLTE may not work on Pixel 4, 5, 6 and 7. Best used as a data-only second line.
- Motorola β no VoLTE in dual-SIM mode.
- Budget Android under Β£300 (Motorola, Honor, OnePlus, Xiaomi, entry-level Samsung) β these lack full carrier aggregation and intelligent network selection, so expect weaker signal and slower speeds than a flagship.
Not supported
- Sony Xperia over eSIM β choose a physical SIM
- Some imported handsets β APN issues we can't always resolve
